Breeding
Firstly a little forenote about breeding from your bulldog,unless you are totally comitted to doing this without any distractions you should not do this and simply enjoy your special friend.rearing bulldog puppies is nothing like other breeds and before embarking on breeding you must have a mentor close to hand and if possible find a breeder close by that will let you get involved with a litter they are raising before you try on your own.to just simply try on your own without any prior experience is asking for disaster as there will be no one there to help you in the middle of the night if anything should go wrong..The main points to bear in mind when considering to breed are...
The normal expected stud fee for a quality mating are up to and including £800..most breeders will want an up front payment in advance although the usual arrangement is that if the mating is not successful a repeat mating is free of charge next season..this does not take into account a "handler" charge which is for an outside experienced handler to visit on the day and handle the dogs..
1; Due to many different compliacations during birth you may lose both your dog and your puppies;
2;A c-section birth which most are, will currently cost from £600 and upwards ,again if there are complications expect this to rise dramatically;
3;There are no guarantees as to litter size,it may be just one or two which will not anywhere near cover your expenses;
4;Your puppies will require you to be with them for the first 4 weeks of their lives constantly feeding initially every hour or so, they simply must not be left unattended for any reason and need your undivided attention as "fading puppy" can strike very fast and you can easily lose your pups;During this time expect a couple of hours sleep a day and your partner to see to your children!
5;Other health problems such as gastric conditions can strike and kill your puppies before you realise there is anything wrong and are able to do anything about it .it is vital to do considerable research beforehand and to have a mentor to hand should you need advice or assistance Genuine vet bill of our own
listed out here is a recent vet bill,please note that this was a basic section delivery with no complications other than the charge for work administering oxygen to one puppy.we have written this out to give an honest idea as to costs involved in breeding..the bill does not include any further aftercare to the bitch or puppies.this is why many breeders will tell you that unless you have a litter of 3+ you will end up at a loss for all your efforts. If you are considering breeding for the first time you will need to be sure that you can afford fees such as these and any further ones like rushing sick puppies to the vets out of hours before you start and most importantly could you bear to lose your bitch should anything go wrong..And most importantly bear in mind that your time is not free especially if you have to get a leave of absence from work and lose 2 months pay lol.
These are just a few of the basic downsides to breeding without going into hereditary problems due to breeding issues..If you still want to look into it further mrs vicky collins-nattrass has a very good publication on how to go about starting out.I`m afraid we cannot advise on how to breed as if you need to ask you almost certainly do not have the experience to breed bulldogs and everybody has different situations at home etc and sadly blame can be cast if things go wrong,

Feeding
Colostrum is the first milk that the mother produces after giving birth. It is very thick, yellowish-cream in color, and rich in antibodies that protect the puppy against disease.It is very important not to think that you should bottle rear your puppies just because your bitch does not take an interest in feeding.there should be a failure to thrive issue before making the decision to feed this way. Puppies that do not ingest colostrum during their first twelve hours of life can not fight diseases they encounter as well as pups that do.A good puppy-nursing bottle holds 2-4 ounces of formula. They are generally sold without holes punched in the nipple. Use a flame-heated needle to melt two small holes in the latex cap. The holes should only be big enough for a few drops of milk drip out when the bottle is shaken. If too many holes are punched in the cap the puppies tend to inhale the formula rather than ingest it. If too few or too small a hole is made the puppy will ingest too much air. Mix the formula well so there are no clumps. Let it cool until it is slightly above room temperature. Always feed pups while they are resting on their stomachs. Never feed them upright or upside down as you would a human infant. Gently insert the nipple into the pup’s mouth using a prying motion while you apply pressure to the sides of the bottle to release a drop or two of milk. From then on the pup should suck on its own.
Everyone has a tendency to over feed puppies. It is much safer to give them a little less than they want. Over-feeding can lead to pneumonia when milk is inhaled into the lungs rather then swallowed into the stomach. It can also cause diarrhoea. It is much safer to feed smaller amounts more frequently than larger amounts less frequently. If milk bubbles out of the pup’s nose it is flowing too rapidly from the bottle. This is usually due to too large a hole(s) in the nipple or over
feeding..
Some owners find it easier to feed very small newborn pups from a one or three millilitre syringe and switch to a bottle when the pup is two weeks old.
ALWAYS STERILIZE ALL YOUR BOTTLES ETC BETWEEN FEEDS AND USE A HAND SANITIZING GEL BEFORE HANDLING YOUR PUPPIES EACH TIME.
How Much To Feed
each day the average puppy needs 25-35 millilitres of formula for every 100 grams (about 3.5 ounces) of body weight. Divide this number by the number of feedings per day to obtain the amount for each feeding.please bear in mind that some puppies are satisfied quicker than others and will require feeding smaller amounts more often,these figures are only a rough idea and not intended as a substitute for experience.. Feed the puppy until its belly is gently rounded or pear-shaped.
How Often To Feed
Feed very young puppies every 1 1/2 -2 hours. always put them on your bitch first even if you think there is not enough milk,your bitches milk will "dry up" if not stimulated and please note that it is quite normal for it to take 3 days or so for milk to come in properly so your puppies will usually lose weight for the first few days and then put it back on.
Burping The Puppy
After each feeding hold the puppy upright with its tummy against your shoulder and pat it gently until it burps releasing trapped air. Nursing bottles that do not release enough milk lead to more air being trapped. If the puppy should bloat or become colicky add a few drops of infant anti-colic medicine to the milk
